Dividends are payments made by a company to its shareholders out of operating profits. They are paid net of withholding tax, currently 10% of the gross amount. A company may pay once a year (final dividend) or more than once (interim and final dividends). Final dividends are approved by shareholders at the Annual General Meeting; interim dividends are approved by the Board of Directors.
